Ross Tran was born on November 5th, 1992, and is a Caucasian American artist also known as “Ross Draw” and is a concept artist, illustrator, and YouTuber. Many of his work is centred on creating his own character concepts and world-building to produce a story and uses a semi-realistic art style.

What makes Trans’s art unique is how he is able to transform and image he finds, into an amazing and detailed piece of art. Tran began to take art more seriously at age 16 in San Jose but later moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of a degree in Industrial Design.

He then began his journey as an influencer on YouTube where he highlights his talents in illustration and concept design. He uses YouTube as a platform for educating aspiring artists and teaches a broad range of tips and techniques to help both young and experienced artists about digital art.

The purpose behind Tran’s work is to inspire these artists and help them gain the knowledge to go and try creating their own artwork.

Ross Tran specialises in both traditional and digital art. However, much of the art he produces in his videos are centred around digital art and photo manipulation.

He uses Adobe Photoshop to create his pieces and uses a diverse range of colours, tools, and brushes that the program has to offer, he also uses a broad range of texture brushes that help to create depth in his paintings. Many of Tran’s art is very bright and vibrant, this is produced by the “glow tool”, which allows you to apply realistic glow effects to your work, Tran uses this tool to bring more life and energy to his art.

Tran had built a large body of work consisting of character concepts and landscape art. One of his biggest works was when he led the designer in the production of “Earth to Eco” in which Tran help to design the small extra-terrestrial alien known as Eco. Tran has also created a large art community with his YouTube channel where he is frequently uploading tutorial videos and more to help young artists who are interested in digital but do not know where to begin. I am currently watching his “Master Course” where he talks about the fundamentals of character, landscape design and how to create a story with your art.

My favourite aspect of Ross Tran’s art is the amazing use of colour and how vibrant and energetic his work is.  I also love the fantasy and action genre that his characters and landscapes are centred around. My passion for digital art and character design has stemmed from Ross Tran’s artwork and so I hope to produce my development pieces using certain aspects of his style such as the bright, vibrant colours and a traditional art aesthetic.
