All About The Spanish Singer by Edouard Manet
It was made in Manet’s studio and used a model and props that were used in at least one other painting.
Diego Velázquez, a Spanish painter, had a big impact on Manet’s style. This painting, which is both realistic and exotic in its depiction of its subject, shows that. To get into the Salon of Paris for the first time, Manet had to show this painting. In 1861, he also had to show a portrait of his parents there.
At the time, the Spanish Singer was well-received and got a good review. For its “very true colour” Theophile Gautier said the painting was “vigorous brush” Charles Baudelaire, a French writer and poet, also thought it was great.
So Manet ended up being a leader of the avant-garde movement. He also inspired a group of young artists, including Henri Fantin-Latour and Carolus-Duran, who went to visit Manet in his studio.
