About Portrait of Jacob Muffel
Albrecht Dürer’s 1526 painting, “Portrait of Jakob Muffel,” is now on display at the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, Germany.
A year later, the German artist depicted Johann Kleberger and Hieronymus Holzschuher in Nuremberg. During Jakob Muffel’s tenure as burgmaster, Dürer donated his four panels of The Four Apostles to the city, and the two paintings may be connected.
It has been speculated that the panel and the portrait of Holzschuher were commissioned for an official celebration and displayed at the town hall of the city.
