All About Madonna Aldobrandini
According to Tietze and Frizzoni, this Madonna may have been commissioned by Federico Gonzaga in 1530, but it was not mentioned in Marcantonio Michiel’s account of the house of Andrea Odoni, which was depicted in Lotto’s portrait. Until the 19th century, it was kept in the sacristy of the Escorial Monastery in Madrid, before moving to Paris. Prior to its purchase in 1860, it was owned by Bacoucouin and Cosvelt collectors, among others.
