Summary of Landscape near Antwerp
It is a good example of Braque’s fauvist style in this painting. It was in March of 1906, at the Salon des Independants, where he first put on display his early Fauvist paintings, many of which were later destroyed by him due to his confusion.
All About Landscape near Antwerp
There, he and another painter went to Antwerp in June of that year. Like his native town of Le Havre, Antwerp is one of Europe’s largest ports. In this way, Braque was able to stay and paint while still feeling like he was in a completely new place.
Cezanne’s influence on Braque’s landscapes near Antwerp undoubtedly led him to paint and draw at the same time, in a style similar to that of Cezanne.
There was no preparatory drawing for this artwork; it was painted on the scene.
